Her Perspective: Lizzie Armanto

Skateboarding is hard enough without being told "It's only for boys."  Get to know how Vans, Birdhouse & Finnish Olympic Pro Skateboarder, Lizzie Armanto got into skateboarding.

How long have you been skateboarding?

I’ve been skating for 15 years.

What originally attracted you to skating?

Initially my younger brother wanted to try out skating. Our mom signed us up for the local skatepark. My brother and I have always been very close and a bit competitive. At the skatepark was no different and we instantly were trying to one up each other.

What was the hardest part of getting into skateboarding as a girl?

I think the hardest part for any person to get into skating is that it takes a lot of time and dedication to progress. You’re going to fall, and you’re probably going to feel insecure at the skatepark, but you just have to keep pushing yourself and you’ll get more comfortable as time goes on and you continue to skate.

Do you have any advice you would like to share with other girls just beginning to skateboard?

Everyone has to start somewhere so don’t be afraid to try. We've all been the new person at the skatepark, so don’t worry too much about it. Have fun, and keep skating!

Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions Lizzie.
Shout out to Christine at Vans for making this possible.
